Global sportswear giant Adidas is currently managing two separate customer data security incidents, impacting its operations in Turkey and Korea. Both breaches reportedly exposed similar sets of personal customer information.
Adidas Turkey recently confirmed unauthorized access to its systems, leading to the exposure of customer details. The company has contacted individuals whose data may have been compromised. Reports indicate that personal information such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth were affected.
Similarly, on May 16th, Adidas Korea announced a security breach that compromised the personal information of customers who had contacted their service centers. The exposed data in Korea included customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, and in some instances, birthdates and physical addresses. This incident in Korea was attributed to unauthorized access gained through a third-party customer service provider.
In both the Turkish and Korean cases, Adidas has stated that sensitive financial information, including passwords and payment-related details, was not compromised.
Adidas Korea has completed notifications to all affected customers in the region and is collaborating with information security specialists to conduct a thorough investigation. The company has also reported the incident to relevant Korean authorities and is implementing additional security measures.
These events follow a recent similar data security issue faced by luxury brand Dior in Korea, where customer information, including purchase history, was accessed without authorization.
Customers affected by these breaches are advised to be vigilant against potential phishing attempts and monitor their accounts for any unusual activity. Cybersecurity experts warn that stolen personal information can be exploited for identity theft and targeted attacks.
Adidas is investigating whether the two incidents are linked.
