Akira Ransomware Allegedly Breaches RBJ Escrow Software, General Converting, Vardeco, and Keller Laser AG

The Akira ransomware group has allegedly added four new international companies to its data leak site, claiming responsibility for cyberattacks and threatening to release a significant volume of sensitive data. The victims span various industries, from software solutions and manufacturing in the United States to precision engineering and metal processing in Switzerland. The threat actors claim to have exfiltrated a combined total of over 200 GB of corporate data from these organizations, putting sensitive employee, customer, and proprietary information at risk.

The list of victims posted on the group’s blog includes detailed descriptions of each company and the specific types of data allegedly stolen. The targeted organizations are:

  • 🇺🇸 RBJ Escrow Software: A California-based company providing software for escrow processing and trust accounting. The group claims to have 20GB of data, including client data, HR files, and employee personal information.
  • 🇺🇸 General Converting, Inc.: A US-based converting services company. The attackers allegedly exfiltrated 138GB of data containing employee personal information, detailed financial data, and customer files.
  • 🇨🇭 Vardeco SA: A Swiss specialist in high-precision bar turning and screw machining. The breach allegedly involves 42GB of data, including highly sensitive employee files with passports, driver’s licenses, and SSNs, as well as project files and customer information.
  • 🇨🇭 Keller Laser AG: A leading Swiss supplier in industrial sheet metal processing. The group claims to possess 9GB of data, which they state consists almost entirely of company drawings.

These alleged incidents highlight the persistent threat ransomware poses to businesses globally, regardless of their sector or location. The potential leak of such confidential information could lead to severe financial and reputational damage for the companies involved, as well as significant privacy risks for their employees and customers. As of now, none of the listed companies have publicly confirmed the attacks.
