Bouygues Allegedly Hit by Data Breach Affecting 6 Million Customers

Bouygues Allegedly Hit by Data Breach Affecting 6 Million Customers

A threat actor has allegedly put a database belonging to the French industrial group Bouygues up for sale on a dark web forum. The post claims that the database contains the information of 6 million customers. The actor is offering to provide a sample of the data to prove the authenticity of their claims, signaling a potentially significant data security incident for the French conglomerate.

Bouygues S.A. is a major industrial group headquartered in Paris, France. While it has diverse operations in construction, real estate development, and media, it is perhaps most widely known for its telecommunications subsidiary, Bouygues Telecom, which is one of the largest mobile network operators in France. A breach of this scale, if confirmed, could expose the sensitive personal information of millions of telecom and other service customers, leading to risks of fraud, phishing attacks, and identity theft.

The full scope and contents of the allegedly leaked database have not been specified by the threat actor in their initial post. At this time, the claim remains unverified, and Bouygues has not released an official statement regarding the potential breach. The cybersecurity community will be closely monitoring the situation for further details or confirmation from the company.
