The Crypto24 ransomware group has claimed a cyberattack against Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM), a core subsidiary of the major Japanese technology and chemical corporation, Asahi Kasei.
Headquartered in Tokyo, Asahi Kasei Microdevices is a globally recognized leader in the semiconductor industry, specializing in advanced sensing solutions and electronic components for the automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics markets. The attack was posted on the threat actor’s data leak site, initiating a public countdown timer.
The Crypto24 group, which targets large enterprises, alleges to have exfiltrated corporate data during the intrusion. While a detailed list of the compromised data has not been specified, the actors’ typical methods involve data theft and exfiltration prior to encrypting systems as part of a double-extortion scheme.
