Prep Hoops, a prominent United States-based media company specializing in high school basketball scouting, events, and recruitment analysis, has allegedly suffered a major data breach. The company is a key resource for aspiring student-athletes, college coaches, and fans, providing extensive coverage and rankings. The incident has reportedly compromised the personal data of over 430,000 unique users. The breach also allegedly extends to associated platforms, including Prep Girl Hoops, Prep Dig, Prep Redzone, and BallerTV, significantly widening the scope of affected individuals within the youth sports community.
A threat actor has advertised the allegedly stolen database for sale on a dark web forum. The actor claims the dataset is extensive and contains a wide variety of sensitive information. The compromised data allegedly includes:
- Player and Staff Data
- Payment and Order Data
- Event, Program, and Contract Details
- Communications and Notification Logs
- Invites, Contacts, and Attendee Information
The leaked samples appear to contain personally identifiable information (PII) such as full names, email addresses, and phone numbers of players, parents, and staff, alongside event and payment details. The exposure of such sensitive information poses a significant risk of fraud, phishing attacks, and other malicious activities targeting the victims, many of whom are young athletes.
