A major data breach has allegedly hit the Mobility Institute of the State of Quintana Roo (IMOVEQROO), the governmental body in Mexico in charge of transportation services and the issuance of driver’s licenses. The incident came to light after a post on a dark web forum announced the breach and claimed to have exfiltrated sensitive personal data belonging to citizens. As the official entity for managing driver documentation, IMOVEQROO holds a significant amount of personal data, making this a critical cybersecurity event.
The individual who posted the data on the dark web claims to have obtained a substantial amount of information, and has also published links to download the compromised files. The data allegedly includes not just the digital copies of driver’s licenses, complete with photographs, signatures and personal details, but also information that would allow these licenses to be added to digital wallets. Such a breach could potentially lead to widespread identity theft and other forms of fraud, affecting a large number of people in the Quintana Roo region.
The leaked data allegedly includes:
- Official driver’s license with photo, signature and personal information
- Link to add the license to Google Wallet
- Personal data such as photos, business and home addresses
- Driver’s license data
