Russian Southern Military District Allegedly Breached – Sensitive Data on Servicemen Leaked Online

A threat actor has allegedly leaked a highly sensitive database belonging to the Southern Military District of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The database was published on a dark web forum and is claimed to contain personal information of servicemen who deserted or left their posts without permission between 2022 and 2024. The Southern Military District is one of Russia’s five military districts, playing a crucial role in operations in the North Caucasus and overseeing Russian bases in the South Caucasus, making any data leak from this entity a significant security event.

The compromised data appears to be extensive, potentially exposing personal and operational details of the listed individuals. The actor shared screenshots of spreadsheets as proof, showcasing numerous records. The leak’s availability on a public forum could have severe implications, not only for the operational security of the Russian military but also for the personal safety of the servicemen and their families.

Based on the information provided by the threat actor, the allegedly leaked database includes the following details:

  • Full Names
  • Military Rank
  • Unit and Formation details
  • Dates of Birth
  • Personal identification numbers
  • Dates and circumstances of leaving their service posts
