A ransomware group known as Brain Cipher has allegedly breached VIRTUALWEB[.]US, a web and cybersecurity services provider, and claims to have exfiltrated over two terabytes of customer data. The group has threatened to leak the data unless a ransom is paid, posting their claims on a dark web forum and listing several of VIRTUALWEB[.]US’s clients as being affected by the breach. The countdown for the data leak was reportedly set to just over 16 hours from the time of the post.
VIRTUALWEB[.]US offers a range of services including web development, cybersecurity, and IT support. The alleged breach raises serious concerns about the security of its clients’ data. Brain Cipher, a relatively new but aggressive ransomware group, has been associated with attacks on various industries globally. Their typical method involves exfiltrating sensitive data before encrypting the victim’s systems, adding another layer of extortion to their demands.

- Remax Consult π°πͺ: An engineering consulting firm based in Kenya, specializing in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services for a variety of sectors, including data centers and healthcare facilities.
- Bitconsultants.org πΊπΈ: A US-based consultancy firm that assists businesses in integrating Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies into their operations.
While the ransomware group claimed to possess a list of files from the breach, the specific titles of the leaked data were not made public at the time of the report. The group has provided an email address to initiate contact and negotiate the terms of the data recovery.
