A threat actor has compromised the official X (formerly Twitter) account of BNB Chain, a decentralized blockchain ecosystem. Following the account takeover, the attacker posted several malicious links designed to phish users’ cryptocurrency wallets.
The team behind BNB Chain has since regained full control of the account and removed the malicious posts. In their official update, they confirmed the breach and stated that the root cause is still under active investigation. They have committed to fully compensating the victims of the phishing attack.
According to the official update from BNB Chain, the impact of the phishing attack includes:
- An estimated total of $8,000 in cryptocurrency stolen from users across all chains.
- The deployment of 10 separate phishing links from the compromised account.
- A single user accounted for the largest loss, totaling $6,500.
