The INC Ransomware group has allegedly targeted Deerfield Management, a prominent American healthcare and biotechnology investment firm headquartered in New York City. The attack appears to have compromised one of the laboratories associated with Deerfield, the California-based life science technology company Singular Genomics. Deerfield is a major player in the global healthcare investment sector, while Singular Genomics specializes in developing next-generation sequencing and multiomics technologies for scientific research.
The threat actors claim to have exfiltrated approximately 20 terabytes of highly sensitive data from the compromised servers and Amazon storage infrastructure. Screenshots provided by the group suggest a massive data trove of at least 13.1 TB has been stolen. The breach allegedly exposes a vast amount of proprietary and confidential information, including crucial research and experimental data related to gene engineering. The attackers have also stated that the leak contains information belonging to several high-profile clients and partners.
The allegedly exfiltrated data includes a wide range of sensitive files, indicating a deep compromise of the laboratory’s core operations. The data listed by the ransomware group includes:
- Scientific experiments and research data
- Software source code
- AI-related data and models
- Client and partner research from entities such as AstraZeneca, GeneDX, Harvard, Juno, Lexogen, Roche, and Siemens
- Genomic data, including human transcriptome information and various biological sequences
