iiNet Hit by Major Data Breach – Details of 280,000 Customers Allegedly Compromised

Australian internet service provider iiNet, a subsidiary of TPG Telecom, has allegedly been impacted by a significant cyberattack, resulting in the unauthorized access of personal information belonging to approximately 280,000 customers. The Perth-based company, a major player in the Australian telecommunications landscape, confirmed the breach which is understood to have occurred after an attacker gained access to its order management system using stolen employee credentials.

The incident has allegedly exposed a considerable amount of customer data. An investigation into the breach has revealed that the compromised information includes a range of personal details. TPG Telecom has stated that the accessed data does not include sensitive information such as driver’s licenses, passports, or credit card details. The company has begun notifying affected customers and is working with external cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident further.
The leaked data allegedly includes:
  • Active customer email addresses
  • Active landline phone numbers
  • Usernames
  • Street addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Modem set-up password
