New York-Based Law Firm Shafer Partners Allegedly Targeted by INC Ransomware

The INC Ransom group has allegedly claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on Shafer Partners, a prominent law firm based in New York, USA. The group has threatened to leak 370GB of sensitive data purportedly belonging to the firm. Shafer Partners is a well-regarded legal practice specializing in Insurance and Corporate Liability Defense, making it a significant target holding confidential client information.

Shafer Partners has established a strong reputation in the legal community, earning high ratings and recognition from entities like Martindale-Hubbell® and A.M. Best. The firm provides legal counsel to a diverse clientele, including insurance companies, large self-insured corporations, and third-party administrators across New York and New Jersey. The alleged breach could have significant implications for the privacy and security of the firm and its clients.

The INC Ransom group, known for its targeted attacks on corporate entities, has listed the law firm on its data leak site. While the full extent and nature of the compromised data have not been independently verified, the ransomware group claims to be in possession of a substantial amount of “law data.” This incident highlights the increasing trend of cybercriminals targeting professional service firms to extort sensitive information.
