In a huge cyber incident, a data breach allegedly involving Airtel India, one of the country’s largest telecommunications providers, has been announced. The breach reportedly exposes the personal details of over 375 million Airtel India customers, with the data being offered for sale on the dark web.
The seller, who claims responsibility for a previous sale of leaked data from the India Ministry of External Affairs Diplomatic Passport Holders, is now advertising this extensive Airtel India customer database. According to the post, the compromised data includes critical personal information, updated as of June 2024, such as phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, parent names, government IDs (including Aadhaar), and more.
Airtel India, known as the second-largest provider of mobile telephony and the third-largest provider of fixed telephony in India, also offers broadband and subscription television services. The breach, if verified, could have severe implications for the telecommunications industry and the privacy of millions of individuals.
The seller has provided a substantial sample at the end of their post to verify the authenticity of the data. The seller is demanding $50,000 in Monero (XMR).
