Daixin Ransomware Group Allegedly Breaches Global Art Gallery Gagosian

Daixin Ransomware Group Allegedly Breaches Global Art Gallery Gagosian

The Daixin ransomware group has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack against Gagosian, a world-renowned gallery specializing in modern and contemporary art. Founded by influential art dealer Larry Gagosian in 1980, the gallery is a global powerhouse with 18 exhibition spaces across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Gagosian represents some of the most significant artists of the 20th and 21st centuries and is known for its high-value transactions with an elite international clientele, including prominent collectors, politicians, and business leaders.

The threat actors added Gagosian to their data leak site, alleging the theft of 202GB of sensitive files. They claim the exfiltrated data contains “complete information about confidential transactions and well-known people (politicians, oligarchs).” A review of a file list released by the group suggests a wide range of sensitive business and client records were compromised. The data allegedly stolen includes:

  • Artist consignment agreements and inventory lists
  • Contracts and commission documents for various artists
  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection entry summaries and bonds
  • Documents related to foundations and private collections
  • High-resolution images of artwork
