California Secretary of State Records Allegedly Leaked

A post on a dark web forum has surfaced, alleging that sensitive data tied to the California Secretary of State’s office has been compromised. The threat actor behind the post claims to have obtained a variety of confidential files, including financial records, organizational filings, and personal information related to various individuals and businesses. While these allegations have not yet been verified by authorities, the nature of the data suggests potentially significant implications if proven true.

The Alleged Files
According to the post, a range of files—purportedly containing sensitive information—were included in the breach. The data spans multiple categories, each detailing different aspects of financial and business activities:

Debtors.csv: This file reportedly contains records of various organizations and individuals identified as debtors or connected to financial obligations. The data includes unique identifiers, names (both of individuals and organizations), addresses, and types of debt, with the majority of entities listed located in California.

Filings.csv: The postings claim this file holds extensive financial filing records, complete with filing dates, types, and statuses. The entries are said to range from “Termination” filings to “Lien Financing Statements,” hinting at potential business or personal financial disputes.

SecuredParties.csv: Allegedly, this file lists secured parties tied to financial transactions. It includes details such as party names, addresses, and filing numbers, which could potentially provide a glimpse into business dealings or secured loans across the state.

Agents.csv: This document reportedly identifies registered agents for business entities, including names, addresses, and types of agents authorized to receive legal documents on behalf of their respective businesses. This information could expose businesses to legal vulnerabilities if in the wrong hands.

Principals.csv: Finally, the post suggests this file lists business principals, including the names and addresses of company officers such as CEOs and managers. The inclusion of personal details about key business figures could lead to targeted attacks or fraud.
