The Obscura ransomware group has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack against the City of Michigan City, a municipality in Indiana, United States. The claim follows an official statement from the City, which confirmed on October 9, 2025, that a network disruption experienced on September 23 was a ransomware incident.
According to the City’s press release, the attack affected a portion of its data and impacted municipal employees’ online and telephone access. The Obscura group has since listed the city on its dark web leak site, indicating that negotiations failed or were not initiated.
The ransomware group claims to have exfiltrated 450 GB of data from the city’s network. The timer on the leak post has expired, and the group has now published the data. The specific types of compromised information have not been detailed in the leak post.
