A dark web forum post surfaced early September, revealing a data breach involving PopinBorder, a management platform that facilitates international businesses operating in the Korean e-commerce market. The breach was allegedly leaked by a threat actor who shared the stolen database with over 150,000 rows of sensitive data for free.
PopinBorder is known for enabling foreign companies to conduct business in Korea without establishing a local presence or hiring local staff. The leaked data includes two databases containing information from prominent Korean marketplaces such as Auction.co.kr and Gmarket.co.kr. While the nature of the data was not fully disclosed, the breach represents a serious threat to both the businesses involved and their customers.
The threat actor responsible for the leak initially tried to sell the alleged data for $3,000 but according to this recent post, due to the lack of interest in the alleged data the threat actor ultimately decided to release it freely to the dark web community.
